Quechua is a French brand of sportswear and tourist and climbing equipment, belonging to the Oxylane group (which in turn owns the Decathlon chain of stores). Quechua is gradually introducing eco-friendly raw materials for making its products. For example, the cotton used for children’s sportswear comes from organic farming only. Organic cotton products also form a small part of the junior and adult product series. Some of the Quechua products are made with the use of recycled polyester (mostly from recycled PET bottles) – it is especially used for making fleece garments and some of the backpacks. Quechua is also working towards the reduction of its carbon footprint – photovoltaic cells are installed on the roofs of company’s buildings and employees use a car-pooling system to commute to work. Quechua does not publish information about its suppliers or the countries where its products are manufactured. Neither does it belong to any multi-stakeholder initiative aiming at improving working conditions in the supply chain.
