Kowtow is a New Zealand brand that was founded in 2006. The author and designer of the collection is a Polish woman who left the country in the 1980s. The brand's offer includes: dresses, skirts, pants, tops, sweaters, shirts and many more. To create her collections, the designer uses only GOTS certified, organic cotton, free from GMOs and harmful pesticides. GOTS also guarantees that substances and dyes free from chlorine bleaches, toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde and aromatic solvents are used in the further processing steps. Cotton is also Fairtrade certified and produced in a traceable supply chain from seed to garment. Fairtrade provides small cotton farmers with fair prices and bonuses for the development of community projects. Packaging for clothes is made from FSC certified paper and and printed with soy-based and petroleum-free inks. The brand has also implemented a free repair programme and take back programme for its customers to return of unused clothes. The factories with which Kowtow cooperates are SA8000 certified. The SA8000 standard encourages garment manufacturers to develop, maintain and apply socially acceptable workplace practices. SA8000 helps provide workers and employees with benefits such as: guaranteed minimum wage, social security funds, pension funds, paid vacation, sickness benefit, health insurance, subsidized lunches, overtime pay and work unions.
