Belgian Ecover is one of the oldest European brands of eco-friendly cleaning products. Ecover products are made mostly of natural plant and mineral cleaning substances. The brand has also developed a yeast-based washing agent. Ecover products contain no phosphates, phosphonates, optical bleaches, halogen elements or GMO. Ecover reduces its carbon footprint by sourcing most of its raw materials from local sources and not using air transport. Since 2011, its products are packaged in biodegradable plastic containers made of sugar cane which also contributes to carbon dioxide reduction. Moreover, Ecover is a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), a multi-stakeholder initiative whose objective is the implementation of palm oil production methods that are more sustainable to people and the environment (oil palm monocultures contribute to the deforestation of primeval forests). Palm oil is the basis for many cleaning products. Ecover’s offer includes cleaning products, dishwasher tablets, washing powders and liquids.
