Baltic Wood is one of Poland’s biggest manufacturers of three-layer flooring. The company is based in Jasło. Timber used for floor production is mostly oak and ash (about 70%) of Polish, Slovakian and Ukrainian origin. Some of the products are certified with FSC Mixed. To the company’s disadvantage, a small percentage of its floors is made of exotic wood which is not FSC-certified. There is some risk, therefore, that this wood may come from forests that are not subject to sustainable management. The company uses natural and resin-based oils, and adhesives used on the premises do not contain harmful formaldehyde. Baltic Wood is also involved in various social and environmental initiatives. One is to donate clothes that are to be reused and recycled, with profits going to Anna Dymna’s Foundation “Against the Odds”. Sawdust from floor manufacturing is handed over to a stud farm, while other wood waste is given to manufacturers of children’s wooden building blocks.
