Dr. Hauschka is a brand owned by the German company Wala founded by Rudolf Hauschka in 1936. The company adheres to the principles of biodynamic farming. Biodynamic farming is not only organic – no artificial fertilizers and no pesticides are used – but also the rhythm of planting depends on the phase of the moon and the positions of the planets. Crop rotation is also used. All the products by Dr. Hauschka are certified with the German BDIH certificate which ensures that the cosmetics are in 95% made of natural ingredients. They contain no petroleum-derived mineral oils, synthetic dyes and aromatic substances, parabens, formaldehyde, silicones or GMO. The plant materials come from Wala’s gardens as well as African and Asian countries where they are grown adhering to high social standards. Wala works with a women farmers’ cooperative in Burkina Faso and with a social enterprise in South Africa that employs people who are in a difficult financial situation. Wala also reduces its carbon footprint, for example by locating its warehouse underground where the temperature is lower. Dr. Hauschka’s offer includes face care, body care and make-up products.
